Canine Caper
Real-life Tales of a Female Pet Vigilante

by Rose Block and Delilah Ahrendt

When Rose Block follows a starving, stray puppy into an abandoned alley one day, her goal is simply to offer the little fellow some food. The gruesome scene before her eyes, however, when she turns the corner—standing next to an emaciated German Shepherd who has been tightly chained around the neck to an oil drum and is bleeding from an open wound—galvanizes her into action and into a perilous world of hair-raising midnight pet rescues and tire-squealing escapes from the police.

Unable to find help, Rose calls her estranged husband. Together, they begin to rescue abandoned pets, providing medical care and new homes for the animals. Soon, drawn to each other by their shared passion, Rose and Bob find themselves falling in love all over again.

Convinced she must do more, Rose begins liberating pets from their abusive and violent owners. Although Bob is reluctant to take the law into their own hands, when Rose sets her sights on rescuing a tormented pit bull and a litter of kittens from an illegal gambling den patronized by corrupt cops, he joins her, realizing that loving Rose means a lifetime of spine-tingling canine capers.

Rose Block, a mother of two daughters, left her accountant's position to devote herself full-time to saving abused and neglected dogs. She and her husband live in an undisclosed location.

Delilah Ahrendt, a writer and Chicago native, studied at Wright College and the University of Illinois, where she majored in English Literature. She has won several writing contests in college and enjoys painting. She lives with her husband and two children in Oregon.
